Free insulation for families

With winter now here and the days getting even shorter, many of us are relying more on our heating systems to keep the cold at bay.

But alongside the welcome warmth, cranking up the thermostat always brings higher bills – and with the pressure on families across the UK to mind their pennies, you might be surprised to hear that there are FREE ways to cut your energy bills.

What’s the best way to cut my heating bills?

Ask any energy efficiency expert how to cut bills and they’ll say the same thing – the less heat your house loses, the cheaper it is to keep warm. That’s why insulating your loft and cavity walls can make a huge difference to your monthly outgoings. According to the Energy Savings Trust, you could save around £40 a month.

But the best news is that for tens of thousands of homes across the UK, home insulation is absolutely free under a Government-backed scheme called the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. This makes your energy company responsible for helping you cut your bills.

How do I get free home insulation?

Put simply, if you pass any of the eligibility criteria (see section below) then you’re very likely to get a free insulation grant.

Subject to your household income, your grant could cover 100% of the cost of the home insulation. Pretty much every home can get some form of grant to cut the cost of installation.

All you need to do is contact an accredited installer like BillSaveUK Ltd and we’ll do all the legwork to check your eligibility and sourcing the grant. You really don’t have to do much at all!

Unlike most other online companies, BillSaveUK are a leading UK installer. Beware websites who claim to have networks of installers, most actually just sell your details to the nearest small-time installer who don’t operate to the same standards as a national insulation company like BillSaveUK.

The Eligibility Criteria

To claim your grant, you’ll need to be able to answer ‘yes’ to the following questions:

  • Does anyone in your household get Child Tax Credit, Income Support, Universal Credit, Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) or similar benefit?
  • You own your own home, or live in privately rented accommodation and could get the landlord’s permission to insulate the house?
  • Do you live in England, Scotland or Wales?

How do I go about applying for a grant?

It’s really easy. The Free Home Insulation scheme is designed so that accredited installers like BillSaveUK do all the leg-work and admin. You don’t need to get anything pre-approved by your energy company, you simply fill in the form or call 0800 368 9938 for a no-obligation chat.

What’s the small print?

The most important thing to remember is that your grant might not cover 100% of the cost of the insulation, so a contribution might be required from you before the work can proceed. We’ll give you an indicative cost when you contact us, and we’ll also send out a qualified energy saving assessor to check your home and give you a final price. Don’t forget – this contribution might be as little at £10, and even if it is higher, it’ll pay for itself in a short space of time through lower bills.

Simply fill in the details below. One of our team will be in touch shortly.

Can I get a free loft insulation grant?

The Government has introduced the “ECO” (Energy Company Obligation) scheme to make energy companies help their customer get cheaper energy bills, and cut their carbon footprint.

One of the best ways to do this is to offer homes in the UK a free loft insulation grant. Most homes are eligible for some sort of free insulation grant, and in many cases, the grant covers 100% of the cost of the loft insulation or cavity wall insulation.

If the energy companies miss their ECO targets, they incur fines – so they work with the bigger insulation companies like BillSaveUK to find customers like you who need their home insulating.

BillSaveUK will arrange everything with the energy company, so there’s virtually no paperwork for you to fill out, you just have to give us a call  on 0800 368 9938 to get the ball rolling.

Most homes in the UK are entitled to a free loft insulation grant irrespective of their income or status, but you’re likely to receive a bigger loft insulation grant if:

  • You’re on a state benefit like Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Universal Credit, Jobseeker’s Allowance or Income Support
  • You use something other than mains gas to heat your home. For instance, coal, wood or other solid fuel, electric heaters or storage heaters, log burners etc
  • You live in a bigger house, especially semi or fully detached. This is because your home is energy-hungry and might have a big carbon output

Important note: Even if you don’t meet any of the criteria above, you are still likely to receive some form of grant, but the contribution you need to make towards your home insulation may be a little higher. Call or contact us today for more details.

How does loft insulation work?

How does loft insulation work?

The best loft insulation is made from environmentally-friendly mineral fibres that are woven into deep layers of insulation roll. This is laid by highly-trained BillSave UK loft insulation installers. First, they put one layer in between the joists, and then another layer lengthways across the joists. That way, you’ve got a double thickness layer of insulation of around 270mm, and no air gaps between the strips.

This means that the loft insulation is up to building regulation standards, and will last indefinitely, so you don’t have to change it every few years.

There are many other benefits to installing loft insulation. Not only will it cut your energy bills and make your home easier to heat, it will lengthen the life of your boiler, by creating a consistent living environment. It can also improve the energy rating of your home.
