BillSaveUK hits the road with new fuel efficient fleet

20th December 2016

Forget ‘driving home for Christmas’, national energy saving expert BillSaveUK will drive to new build sites and residential properties to install home insulation this winter using its brand new fleet of fuel efficient vehicles.

The Leicester home insulation business has recently taken delivery of 15 new DAF LF 150 Euro 6 7.5 tonne lorries and a 12 tonne scaffolding lorry, with a further five 7.5 tonne lorries expected early next year. The Company’s investment in a branded fleet marks a significant step in moving away from the Mark Group vehicles it had been using since its management buyout in October 2015.

The new fleet has been designed to meet the specific needs of BillSaveUK’s principle business installing cavity wall and loft insulation at new build sites and as retrofit measures, as well as supporting its growing scaffolding, solar PV and electrical services divisions. All vehicles feature a ‘Track it now’ telematics system to make routes and journey times as fuel efficient as possible, DAF’s vehicle stability control, reversing cameras with colour LED screen in the driver’s cab and a rear step to allow the driver safe entry and exit at the rear of the vehicles. The scaffolding lorry is designed to enable efficient, direct loading and unloading to eliminate the need for storage space on building sites.

Jamie Bogg, BillSaveUK’s head of transport and environment, said: “Our business is built around achieving energy efficiency for our customers and we feel it’s important to uphold the same objectives across our operations – from generating electricity through solar PV systems installed at our branches, to ensuring our commercial fleet is as fuel efficient as possible.

“Whilst the recognition we’ll gain through having our vehicles properly branded on the roads and easily identifiable at installation sites is good news for the business, the specification we’ve chosen means we’ll be able to operate and manage a far more efficient fleet than ever before. This will enable us to provide an even better service to our customers, aiding future business growth.”

With health and safety always front of mind, all BillSaveUK drivers will receive induction training on the new vehicles’ special features and on how to drive in the most fuel efficient manner. Fuel usage will be reported at regular intervals and using the ‘Track it now’ facility, data will be gathered on speed, harsh braking, acceleration and sharp cornering. The telematics system will also act as a planning tool to ensure installers aren’t crossing paths resulting in wasted fuel and time.

The fleet will be distributed across BillSaveUK’s branch network with the first 15 vehicles to be located in Leicester, Leeds, Newcastle and Wednesbury.
