Housebuilder: Westleigh Homes
Location: Abbey Meadows, Leicester
Development size: 188 homes and apartments
Date: October 2017 to date
We’ve had a working relationship with Westleigh for many years.
As a midlands-based housebuilder, well-known for their timber
frame construction, we understand how their system works and are
able to provide a tailored service which is different to that
required for traditional masonry builds.
In October 2017 we started work on a historic industrial site in Leicester. Known locally as ‘Sock Island’, Abbey Meadows was previously home to international hosiery manufacturer Wolsey, until 2004. Following planning approval, Westleigh contracted our services to design, erect and dismantle scaffolding for the five phases of the development, which includes private and social accommodation in houses and two six-storey apartment buildings.
Knowing timber projects move fast with entire floors being built at a time, this is a labour-intensive contract for us. We developed designs to suit the timber frame structure and devised a build programme with Westleigh which would progress at the rate required. We then allocated four experienced scaffolders as a dedicated team on site, with a Field Manager overseeing progress and acting as a main point of contact for Westleigh’s Site Manager. With all of these elements combined, we’re able to build an entire lift in a week and, at the end of Phase 1, we’re already 10 days ahead of schedule, helping Westleigh to stay on track for completion.
“We continue to use BillSaveUK for scaffolding services because they understand
how our timber frame system works. They have the experience to develop the designs
we need, they’re reliable, professional and they get moving, staying well ahead of
where we need them to be. They’re an invaluable part of our delivery team.”
